Tommy Young

Designer

Tommy’s architectural journey started in Grand Rapids, Michigan. Growing up snowboarding and skateboarding, he spent his time carefully studying interesting ways people would reimagine spaces. Fascinated by the culture and communities created around the snowboard and skateboard industries, he attended Grand Valley State University and received a BA in Liberal Studies focused in Cultural Adaptation. His theoretical studies of human nature taught him about cultures, communities, impacts, and influences on human beings. Soon after graduating he moved to Chicago, where he was able to identify the similarities between his studies in culture and the built environment. Excited about his newly discovered passion for architecture, Tommy moved to San Diego. There he attended NewSchool of Architecture and Design, and received a Master of Architecture degree concentrated in Neuroscience for Architecture.

Tommy’s non-traditional pathway to architecture allows him to draw inspiration from the human experience and apply it to his work in a way that promotes a healthy bond between sensory experiences and the built environment.

Outside of the office, Tommy spends his time deep-diving into hobbies he finds interesting. He has worked in the food industry, fashion industry, and the snowboard and skateboard industries. He loves design, art, furniture, and exploring the outdoors.
