RNT worked closely with KTU+A in the development of Sweetwater Park’s early planning stages and Schematic Design of the parks Comfort Station and Shade Structures. Sweetwater Park is meant to be a passive park focusing on the environment and natural resources of the area. The comfort station provides gender neutral restrooms and family restrooms with a large overhang to the north to serve as a shading device as a central hub of the park and as an oculus. A small opening in the shade structure will cast a ‘hot spot’ in the center of the projected shadow and help visitors locate the date time and season identified in the hardscape. The concept helps contribute to the overall educational and interpretive designation provided by the design team as ‘ecotones’.
