Jerabek Elementary School

Client: San Diego Unified School District

Location: San Diego, CA

Jerabek Elementary School WSM project includes a whole site modernization of (3) existing classroom buildings, Administration Building (100), Multi-Purpose Building (200) and (6) existing portable classrooms. The existing central plant mechanical system was decommissioned and replaced with a new system. All buildings received new windows and doors; interior finish upgrades; ECS and fire alarm upgrades; student restroom upgrades. The existing classroom buildings are loft style classrooms which present acoustic issues for instruction and group activities. The interior classroom building layout was maintained similarly, but all classrooms’ walls were replaced with full height partitions to improve the acoustics and function of each teaching space. The site modifications included upgrades to the accessible path of travel, re-stripping of the existing asphalt play area and the addition of new landscaping in place of the demolished portables. The Kindergarten playground was relocated to the new Building 900 outdoor space with a new play structure, turf area and secured perimeter. The electrical and technology infrastructure was also upgraded to match current standards
