The Palm Springs House is a linear plan
that creates a series of living spaces in the desert which
allow for an extended family to live together under a simple
shelter. The spaces form a progression from public to private
and orchestrate views to the surrounding desert and mountains.
A passive cooling tower catches breezes, admitting cool air
into the living spaces as well as allowing warm air to leave.
The swimming pool is aligned with the westerly prevailing
breeze that will cool the air as it passes over the water
and into the house. An adjustable shade trellis moves to control
the summer sun and allows the winter sun to penetrate the
living space and warm the floor slab.
